June 19, 1865, two years after President Abraham Lincoln presented the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, slaves finally received word they were free. Juneteenth Jefferson City, a local committee of community members, hosts the annual Juneteenth Heritage Fesitval to celebrate Freedom Day with live music, interactive and resourceful booths, food trucks, and more. This FREE event invites all to engage with their neighbors in the historic Foot District of Jefferson City to celebrate freedom and progress, and look toward the future with hope.
