Did you know JC Parks has a master plan? It’s 242 pages of research, designs, and other goodness aimed at continuing our mission of improving the lives of residents and making Jefferson City a happier and healthier place to live!
What is the JC Parks Master Plan?
First and foremost, what exactly is it? The Jefferson City Parks, Recreation & Forestry Master Plan is a comprehensive plan for parks, trails, and forestry improvements throughout the JC Parks system.
Completed in 2018, it is the first of its kind in Jefferson City since 1952!
Included are:
- Findings on the current state of our parks gathered through site analysis of each park, community profiling, a data-backed needs assessment, stakeholder interviews, and public survey.
- Design concepts and rationale for each improvement project, with the estimated cost.
- Maintenance assessments and recommendations.
- An overview of plan implementation, which includes project order and funding details.
How were the projects in the JC Parks Master Plan determined?
The projects outlined in the plan were determined through a detailed needs-based assessment, which revealed parks and areas of our community in most need of improvements.
The major goal of the Master Plan is to provide an equitable distribution of park and recreation amenities to enhance the quality of life in the community. Everyone deserves a quality park close by. The Master Plan is in place to help make that a reality for every Jefferson City resident.
What is the timeline for Master Plan completion?
The Master Plan is intended to guide park improvements for ten years, give or take. As Jefferson City grows and develops, so does our plan! Every decade or so, we hope to update the plan to fit the evolving needs of our community.
The plan has been around for four years, and we’re making great strides! Check out the run down of projects that have already been completed, those in progress, and what’s coming up next.
